A rich set of Features to browse, communicate and manage your contacts
Today screen integration
Face Contact lets you browse, communicate and manage contacts directly
from the Today screen of your Windows Mobile device,
so your contacts are always at hand.
When inactive, the Face Contact plugin automatically shrinks its height
(by hiding the caption), so it occupies
as little screen estate as a couple of Today items.
Yet, by virtue of its 3D visual interface, it shows at a glance about as many contacts
as you get to see full screen with the text-based “Contacts” application.

Full integration with Outlook Mobile
Face Contact doesn't require you to enter any new or separate contact information. It uses exactly
the same information you entered with your text-based Contacts
application, or using Outlook on your desktop PC.
It also automatically detects and reflect changes to contacts after synchronization,
so information is always up-to-date and consistent among applications.

Sort contacts instantly
Face Contacts lets you switch among different sort criteria at any time.
You can display contacts by First or Last Name, Company, or by a “User Defined Order”.
As contacts are sorted alphabetically, you always know where you are in the list,
and if you need to scroll forward or backward to reach a given contact,
exactly as when browsing a text-only contact list.
The “User Defined Order” gives you the option of keeping specific people
(such as friends or family) at the very beginning of your list:
you can keep contacts sorted alphabetically during working hours,
and then switch to “User Defined Order” at night or weekends,
so people you call frequently are always visible in your Today screen.
|
Kinetic scrolling with 3D rendering and index tracking
Face Contact lets you scroll and interact with contacts using the device touch screen,
cursor keys or a combination of both.
When scrolling rapidly through the list Face Contact displays
a single character index-tracking indicator, which provides
an effective clue of the current position in the list.
If you overshoot, you know immediately if you need to move backward or forward in the list
to reach the desired contact.
You can select between "Progressive" tracking, which shows the instantaneous position in the list,
and "Predictive" tracking, which reflects the position where scrolling will stop.
|
Jump quickly to any position/index in your contact list
When contacts are sorted alphabetically (by First Name, Last Name or Company),
pressing an alphabetical key on your device thumbboard or keyboard
will instantly jump to the corresponding position in the list.
You can also move rapidly through the list using numeric keys:
“0” will jump to the beginning of the list, “1” to about 10%, “2” to about 20% and so on.
Of course, if your device doesn't include a thumbboard or keyboard,
you can perform the very same operations using the software input panel on the touchscreen.
|
Single Key calling and Shortcut Menu
Calling the selected contact is as easy as pressing the "Start Call"
key of your phone. There's no need to perform any additional tapping, holding
or other distracting action.
A detailed and easy to read Shortcut Menu (invoked with a single tap) provides access
to the main communication methods available for the selected contact,
including primary work, home and mobile phones, primary email address,
text messaging, and a link to the contact's personal web page, if any.
To view all contact details, just tap the header of the Shortcut Menu,
or tap and hold on the selected contact.

Customize the look and feel to fit your Today screen
You can easily customize the appearance of Face Contact to fit the layout
and theme of your Today screen.
- Choose among different “Photo Shapes” (square, rounded, circle, etc.).
- Select the transparency level that best matches your Today screen background.
- Enable/disable the reflection effect for improved readability and performance.
- Use the preview at the top of the screen to experiment and verify your settings.
|
Contact Manager
The integrated “Contact Manager” lets you perform any contact management operation
directly from Face Contact, without having to switch back and forth with
the text-based Contacts application that comes with Windows Mobile.
- add or remove contacts;
- display full contact details, contact notes or even beam a contact to a different device;
- access and edit all contact information;
- change the sort criteria or modify your “User defined order”;
- adjust, remove or replace pictures associated with your contacts
(including access to dozens of ready-to-use icons);
- alter Face Contacts settings, such as motion parameters,
position within the Today screen, and other display options.

Adjust, replace and remove pictures
Face Contact displays whatever picture you have already associated with a contact:
you don’t need to redefine your contact pictures to start using Face Contact.
If an existing picture has a rectangular shape,
Face Contact automatically displays a square area at the center of the picture.
But if needed, you can adjust this setting for each contact,
so that the most appropriate region of each contact/picture is displayed.
You can also use the integrated “Adjust/Select Picture” feature
to change/add photos to your contacts, rotate pictures as needed,
and define the exact area to cut out and associate with a contact.
|
Use it with any contact: the Icon Gallery
You can easily use Face Contact with any contact/number that you want to keep at hand in your Today screen.
The integrated "Icon Gallery" lets you assign icons to companies or services that you call frequently,
such as a gym, a golf club, an airline, etc.
You can browse the Icon Gallery exactly as you browse your main contact list,
including the ability to use alphanumeric keys to jump to specific positions in the list.
And if you need to use the same icon for multiple contacts (for example, different airlines)
the color selector lets you differentiate such contacts by using different colors.
|
Adjust motion and index tracking parameters
Depending on the number of contacts in your list,
and the way you use Face Contact,
you may want to change the scrolling speed,
or the distance traveled by the list for each swipe of the stylus.
The Motion Control feature provides full access to such parameters,
and it also lets you select the desired index-tracking behavior:
- select “progressive” to see the instantaneous position in the list as scrolling occurs;
- select “predictive” to receive an indication of where scrolling will stop,
so you get to know in advance if further "motion" needs to be applied to reach
the desired position in the list.

The rationale behind Face Contact
|
|
Our ability to detect and recognize images, shapes and colors comes well before
the process of reading characters and words, and associate them with a concept or meaning.
We can distinctively perceive an image even if moving and being shown just for a fraction
of a second, while we definitely need some time and effort to read words,
especially if moving or rapidly scrolling on a screen.
This is the main reason why computer systems based on some kind of Graphic User Interface
are so much more effective to use then text-only systems.
Icons, shapes and colors provide clues which are easier to interpret than simple lists
of file names, directories, processes and devices.
So why are we still browsing and managing our personal contact list using text only,
when immediate and easy clues can be provided by a contact's picture, an icon, or a company logo?
There are indeed a few so-called “photo dialer” applications that
let you browse and call contacts by their pictures. Unfortunately their actual use is often
limited to just a handful of favorite contacts.
They don't provide much in terms of contact management features,
and they simply lack the kind indexing and direct access features which are needed
to navigate effectively through dozens of contacts.
The idea behind Face Contact is to combine the best of both worlds,
and to provide exactly the same kind of control and features you expect
from a text-based Contacts application,
with that special “visual touch” that makes everything more effective, intuitive and easy to use.
